The Essence of Time

I have a serious question to ask you. When is your last day on this earth? This is a question that even a psychic can’t answer accurately. We as people sit around as if we are guaranteed to be breathing tomorrow. As a result, we invest time into things that serve us no good in the long run.

Time is one of the most essential things that we are given from the time we are born. How we use our time dictate the results of our lives. Many of us work 9 to 5 shifts, come home, and prepare to do it all over again. We put so much time into a career, toxic relationships, and other things that aren’t valuable to our lives. Consequently, we forget about ourselves, our dreams, goals, and happiness. We get so caught up in the responsibilities of life and forget about our inner voice.

I am a victim of not investing my time wisely. There were many times that I abandoned perfecting my crafts for a night out with friends. These nights consisted of bar hopping, clubbing, or just hanging out at one of their homes. The next day, I would sometimes regret it due to spending more than I expected, and the fact I would have only one day left before I returned to work. I would even wish that I had never went out, so that I could’ve done something more valuable with my time. Instead, I let others deter me from working on my goals just for a night of fun. Don’t get me wrong it’s okay to go out and have fun, however clubs, bars, and your real friends will always be there as you devote time to becoming the person you were meant to be.

So what are you waiting for? What is stopping you from using your time wisely?

Here are 4 ways you can use your time in an effective way:

  1. Invest in yourself:

For starters, alone time is something that we all need. I recommend devoting at least an hour a day to alone time. Take this time to learn yourself all over again. Come up with new long term goals, as well as short term goals. Discover new hobbies. Learn new skills. Pick up a book and read. Acquire new knowledge. Practice building spirituality. Meditate. Buy new clothes. Treat yourself. Start a savings account. Collect change in a piggy bank. Your future self will thank you.

2. Spend time with positive people:

Just like you don’t know your last day here on earth, others don’t either. Spend time with those who are dear to you. Spend time around people who make you comfortable. People who don’t make you feel under pressure. People who support you. People who encourage you. People who make you laugh. People who can brighten your day. When you surround yourself with these types of people, your energy level will increase and it will bring the best out of you.

3. Express yourself

Life is too short to keep your feelings bottled up. Not everyone is skilled at reading non-verbal cues. With that being said, be expressive! If something is bothering you, say it. If you appreciate something, don’t hesitate to say it as well. If you are in love with someone, speak up! When we express ourselves, we are freeing ourselves from frustration and worries. We also lift a weight off our shoulders by letting out our inner feelings.

4. Follow your intuition

Many of us remain stagnant when our heart and gut is speaking to us. We sit back and overthink, over-analyze, and drive ourselves crazy not realizing that time is passing us by. Take this moment and follow your intuition. Trust your heart. Know that your heart won’t lead you in the wrong direction. When you follow your heart, it’ll save you from wondering the what if’s or what could’ve been.

Investing your time in the right aspects of life will help you become the person you were created to be. So the next time you have a little bit of free time, invest it into bettering your life!

  1. I would like to say that was a very good read with many good points. TIME is truly a precious gift and it stands still for no one….and once it’s gone, it can never be regained!

The misconception of TIME is that we have an endless amount of it so we put things off, make excuses, etc.

SO, we can either use it wisely to achieve our purpose or we can waste it…..either way, one day it will run out…it’s inevitable BUT it’s what you do with the time that matters and the lasting impact you leave on others once your gone.

You never know whose reading and who your inspiring with your thoughts, words…..and your journey. Our words have power and they can be just what someone needed to hear to make it through the day.

    1. Thank you for such valuable feedback. As my high school history teacher would say, “excuses are tools of incompetence that build monuments to nothing.” I hope I inspired someone to put excuses to the side and take action!
