“Good instincts usually tell you what to do before your head has figured it out.”- Michael Burke
Throughout life, we all face battles. One of the biggest battles we face is the constant battle between our mind and our heart. This battle is a tough battle to fight. With our mind, we are given logical advice. This advice helps us make sensible and realistic decisions, while the hearts decisions can be risky.
When it comes to our heart, we are making a decision based on our gut feeling. We sometimes aren’t thinking clearly, so we step out on a limb. This limb sometimes lead us to achieving what ever it is we want to accomplish. On the other hand, it may not, but we learn from it and we can move forward in getting back up and brushing ourselves off.
I’m a firm believer of heart over mind. Yes, the mind does make sense, however you will never know your true potential until you take a risk and follow your heart. Think about some of the inner dialogue you have having between your mind and heart? What is it that your heart want that your mind is making you possibly doubt?
Below is the inner dialogue of the battle I face with my heart and my mind….
“You can’t walk away yet.”
“How will you pay your bills?”
“You’d be making less money.”
“Move on with your life.”
“There are plenty fish in the sea.”
“Don’t risk it.”
“Think about what could happen if you do that.”
“There are billions of people in the world, you will find someone else.”
“Don’t do it.”
“Weigh the pros and cons.”
“You will waste your time trying.”
“What if it doesn’t work out?”
“What if you get rejected?”
“You’re in a great position.”
“You have it better than others.”
“You only have one life to live.”
“This is not where you want to be in life.”
“You are so much more than what you think of yourself.”
“Take a risk.”
“Don’t let fear hold you back.”
“Follow your dreams.”
“Believe in yourself.”
“Block out the noise.”
“Go ahead and do it.”
“Fight for who you love.”
“Always be yourself.”
“Make a change.”
“Reveal your inner voice.”
“Forgive and forget.”
“Let people in.”
“Trust your gut.”
In the past, I chose more of my mind’s dialogue over my heart. This has gotten me to make more sensible decisions, but I am still living with the “what if” thoughts. This year I plan to limit choosing my mind over my heart so I can really get to where I want to be in life. I am looking forward to seeing the results of choosing my heart over my mind and seeing how far it will take me.
