Weakness is defined as the state or condition of lacking strength. Society uses this term in a way that causes us to hold back on how we truly feel. If you cry, you’re weak. If you get hurt, you’re weak. If you end up pouring your heart and feelings out, you’re weak. If this is the case, then when are we ever strong? Are we strong when we guard ourselves from the world?
Over the past few years, I’ve been very big on vulnerability and transparency. I believe that this is a great way to connect with others. I find beauty in people speaking and walking in their truth. It takes a lot of courage to be able to identify how you truly feel about yourself, as well as the world unapologetically. But somehow, we fall into the trap of hiding ourselves and our feelings to come off as strong, when in reality vulnerability is what makes you strong.
For anyone who has difficulties in showing emotions or expressing how you feel, it’s time to challenge yourself to understand and accept the fact that it is okay to share your true feelings with those around you.
It’s okay to let others know that you are not okay. It’s okay to not have all the answers that you’re yearning for. It’s okay to let others see you hurt. It’s okay to cry. It’s okay to be vulnerable and open up to others, even when it seems risky. It’s okay to wear to heart on your sleeves.
Don’t let the world harden you. Don’t let the world cause you to put your guards up so high that no one can get through to you. Don’t let the world make you feel like you have to hide how you truly feel. Don’t let the world cause you to numb yourself from experiencing genuine happiness.
Life is a beautiful thing, but in order to experience the beauties of it, you have to be willing to feel. The way to feel is to be susceptible to what life throws at you and to handle it accordingly. In other words, be vulnerable and true to those around you.
