Finding Gratitude

In this very moment, I can confidently say that I am happy. I wouldn’t trade this feeling for anything else in the world. There’s so much that I’ve been overlooking as to why I felt so unhappy in the past. When I take a look at my surroundings, there are so many things that I have that I should be more appreciative of.

I have a great amount of friends who I can call on at any given time just to vent. I have a roof over my head. I have lights and food in my home. I have a decent paying job. My finances are in tact. I’m more connected to the world around me than I’ve ever been. If I want to get up and travel somewhere, I can do so without anything holding me back. What else could I be missing? I honestly have it all, which is an absolute blessing.

While sitting here in solitude, I’m questioning myself…. What made you feel so unhappy? Were you caught up in focusing on what you don’t have more than what you do have? Sadly, that’s really the truth. I put so much focus on what I didn’t have to the point that I was totally oblivious to all that I do have. I was lacking gratitude tremendously.

Gratitude is essential when it comes to genuine happiness. If you aren’t grateful and appreciative for the things that you currently have, you’ll never truly be happy. You’ll forever be chasing after something that can never be captured. You have to find something to appreciate in every given moment.

Forever isn’t promised and nothing in life is guaranteed. So if happiness is a goal of yours, start by being grateful for this current moment. You never know when it may be too late. Be happy. Be present. And most importantly, be grateful.
